That was a thread running through our week at EUROSPINE 2026: from the UBE Arena to the Lunch Symposium, the conversations went beyond the first biportal endoscopic cases and towards the decisions that shape an endoscopic practice over years.
Two formats carried that question through three days in Gothenburg. In the UBE Arena, experienced UBE surgeons operated live on the simulator during the coffee breaks. In the UBE 2030 Lunch Symposium, five Key Opinion Leaders looked at where biportal endoscopy is heading over the next five years.

Where will your MIS practice be in five years? Lunch Symposium
The symposium took UBE beyond the first cases: from the two-handed architecture and ten years of evidence to complex cases, the OR of the future and an open debate on where to start.
Five Key Opinion Leaders in UBE and beyond: one hour, five perspectives and one open debate on how the next years will shape spine surgery:
- Dr. Joseph Cristini: More than surgery, shaping your career
- Dr. Guillaume Lonjon: The two-handed architecture advantage
- Dr. François Lechanoine: Ten years of UBE literature
- PD Dr. med. Antonio Faundez: Complex cases, the next growth phase
- Prof. Dr. Bernhard Meyer: The next MISS surgeon, how endoscopy, imaging and robotics will converge
The final discussion ended on one question: knowing what you know now, what is the one decision you would make differently?
Mastery is not a procedure. It is the ability to keep progressing.
The UBE Arena: five live simulator sessions in three days
At our booth, the UBE Arena brought biportal endoscopy off the slides and to the auditorium. During the coffee breaks, experienced UBE surgeons & KOLs operated live, explained every step and answered questions right at the table:
- UBE-ULBD, unilateral laminotomy for bilateral decompression: PD Dr. Nicole Lange
- UBE paraspinal approach for foraminal decompression: Prof. Dr. Martin N. Stienen
- UBE-PCF, posterior cervical foraminotomy: PD Dr. med. Antonio Faundez
- UBE unilateral posterior cervical laminotomy for bilateral decompression: Dr. François Lechanoine and Dr. Joseph Cristini
- UBE-PCF, posterior cervical foraminotomy: Dr. Joseph Cristini and Dr. François Lechanoine
Three of the five sessions focused on the cervical spine, showing how far biportal endoscopy now reaches beyond the lumbar indications.
The team behind the booth
Every live session in the UBE Arena was carried by the NEXON team on site: application and clinical support specialists, our distribution partners and the colleagues who organised three days in Gothenburg.
They prepared the biportal simulator stations, guided surgeons through instrument handling at the hands-on table and stayed for the questions that come after the first cases: indications, workflow in the OR, and how mentoring and case support continue once a surgeon is back in their own hospital.
For many visitors, the conversation started at the simulator and continued at the booth table: how the EnSight™ UBE training pathway builds from Module 1 at our training centre in Oberkirch to cervical and fusion modules, and how a department turns its first trained surgeons into a team that performs biportal surgery as a routine.
The surgeon is the source. Nexon is the multiplier.

Hands-on, all three days
Last year in Copenhagen, the moments we remember best from our booth did not happen on a screen. They happened at the hands-on station, with surgeons holding the instruments themselves. In Gothenburg, we picked up right there.
Between the sessions, the biportal hands-on station was open all day. Surgeons used and evaluated the EnSight™ UBE instruments themselves, on simulator models. Because a technique becomes yours the moment it is in your own hands.
Thank you to PD Dr. Nicole Lange, Prof. Dr. Martin N. Stienen, PD Dr. med. Antonio Faundez, Dr. François Lechanoine and Dr. Joseph Cristini for operating, explaining and answering right at the booth.
Mastery does not start on a slide. It starts the moment the technique is in your own hands.
Thank you
Thank you to our faculty: Dr. Joseph Cristini, Dr. Guillaume Lonjon, Dr. François Lechanoine, PD Dr. med. Antonio Faundez, Prof. Dr. Bernhard Meyer, PD Dr. Nicole Lange and Prof. Dr. Martin N. Stienen, for operating, explaining and answering. Thank you to our partner BONSS MEDICAL, to everyone who stopped by the booth, and to the NEXON team on site.
Exceptional surgery changes one patient. Reproducible surgery changes healthcare.
At NEXON, we are not just advancing spinal endoscopy. We are building the ecosystem that empowers the next generation of spine surgeons: technology, structured training and support from the first case onwards.
